My Fairy Tale

Soliana has finished our story.  And, what a twist she has offered.  Good job Soliana.  We thank you for your story and for completing the challenge.

Here is Soliana’s Fairy Tale.

Once upon a time in a land very, very different from the one where you and I live, there lived a baby dragon named Frederick.  One hot summer afternoon after finishing the chores Mama had given him to do, Frederick decided to take a nap under his favorite shady tree.

While he napped he dreamed of a great battle.  In this dream battle a great and powerful king, Stefin, fought another powerful king, Lobrock, for the lands within the kingdom to which they both claimed ownership.

Stefin and his soldiers fought bravely, but they were soon overpowered by the wit and skill of Lobrock and his followers.  As Stefin and his followers were forced to remove themselves from the castle fortress, Lobrock announced that only Stefin and his wife, Sofrina, may leave the castle.  All others would remain, to become loyal followers of Lobrock.  This was to include all of Stefin’s family members, as well.

Sofrina was horrified, for she had just recently produced an egg which would soon hatch.  Under no circumstances did she and Stefin wish to have their first and true heir grow up under the rule and subject to Lobrock.  There was only one thing she could do.

Now, as dreams will do, it ended.  Right there!

Frederick awoke with a dull pain in his side and as he slid aside, what do you suppose he found?

“Mama, look what I found!”

“Oh my,” said Mama, “It’s an egg!  Where did you get it?”

“If I tell you a secret,” said Frederick,  "will you promise never to tell anyone?”

“I promise.”

“This is a very special egg and I have been chosen to protect it.”

Mama dinosaur laughed like it was a joke and said to Fredrick. “I'm sorry Fredrick, I don't have time for your silly jokes and I also don't have time to know where this egg came from so I want you to go into the woods and return that egg to where it belongs, please.”

“But Mama”, whined Fredrick. “Queen,Sofrina and King Stefin are counting on me to take care of their future child until they get their citizens back from Lobrock’s kingdom to make sure it's safe enough for their child to come home.”

Mama sighed and said "You can keep the egg.   But, right now you are accepting total responsibility for somebody's child.”

“I swear I won't let you down Mama,” said Fredrick.   He hugged his mom and rushed inside his cave to put the egg in his own nest.  Fredrick was proud of himself because just yesterday he was given his very own nest, just for himself.

Just then the egg began to shake and rattle.   Fredrick put his hand on the egg to feel what was happening inside but, just then a tiny dinosaur popped out with another baby dinosaur.  Fredrick gasped in disbelief.

"Twins!"

Mama dinosaur rushed over to Fredrick and said “Someone is at the door.”

Queen Sofrina was waiting and when she saw the twins she smiled and thanked Fredrick so many times and gave Fredrick the honor of naming the two baby boys.

Fredrick gave the first one the name Scurry because the little dinosaur was very active.  Fredrick then named the other dinosaur Stewart because he seemed intelligent.

Queen Sofrina scooped up her twins and said "To thank you for taking care of my children at this difficult time, I will protect your family with my life.”

And Now. I'm very happy to say that Elijah's submission fell within our word count guidelines and so without further wait. Here is Elijah's story: Thank you Elijah. JOB VERY WELL DONE!!

“And that is exactly what I'm going to do with all my heart." "But who gave you this egg?" asked Frederick's Mother. "I got it from a king." "What king?" she asked. "The king from my dream, Mama!" Frederick's Mom was having a very hard time understanding what he meant, but she knew her son always told the truth, so she decided to believe him and to help him care for the egg until the day he had to return it. Every day the egg grew bigger with Frederick and his Mother taking very good care of it. One day Frederick exclaimed, "Mama, Mama! Come Quick! I think the egg is going to hatch!" The egg began to shake, crack and bounce around and suddenly two little arms with sharp pointy claws popped out of each side. "W-w-what is it? asked Frederick. Before she could answer him, a loud knock came from the door, "Who is it?" asked the frightened dragons. "KING STEFIN AND QUEEN SOFRINA!" Just then the baby’s head popped out, to their surprise it was a magical bird with a lion’s head! They ran to the door and let the king and queen in to get their baby. "Thank you for keeping our baby safe Frederick, in return we will always watch over you and your family forever more." Then he handed Frederick a lolly-pop and they turned and flew into the sky.
