My Father's Socks

My Father says he’s very hard

Upon his socks and clothes;

Most every night a hole peeps out

In knees or heels or toes;

There’s something I don’t understand,

And I would like to know.

When the hole comes, where, I wonder,

Does that bit of his sock go?
