Story Writing
Once Upon a Time . . .
Have you ever wanted to write your own fairy tale?Let’s have some fun! This will be a fun, interactive story page written entirely with your support. We’ve started a fairy tale below and would love for you, our readers, to help finish it. That’s right. All you have to do is read the story beginning below and then submit your continuation in the submission block at the bottom of the page. It should be a fun journey and who knows where it might end? What adventures we will have? What great characters we will meet! Of course, there are some guidelines. Word allowance on each submission: 200 words minimum 500 words maximum
If 2 or more submissions are received subsequently, the editor reserves the right to choose which one will be published. If yours is not published, you may edit and re-submit, after following the newly revised story line. No profanity or questionable content please. This is a family friendly website. Carefully read what has been written previously. Segue your writing to continue the story line. (A definition to remember): Seque (seg way) a smooth transition from one topic to another. Write your submission to logically continue the expanding story line. All submissions will be edited for spelling and punctuation. Make use of spell checker – it’s a good habit to get into if you are unsure. Author credits (if desired) will be listed at the end of the story. No guarantee is implied. Editors reserve the right to choose which submissions will be published. We will do our best to use all submissions, but we imply no guarantee that your submission will be published. Carefully read what has been written previously. Writing your submission to logically continue the expanding story line will give yours the best chance of being published. OK enough rules. Go create. Imagine everything - anything.
Let’s write! ***************************************************
Once upon a time In a land very, very different from the one where you and I live, there lived a baby dragon named Frederick. One hot summer afternoon after finishing the chores Mama had given him to do, Frederick decided to take a nap under his favorite shady tree. While he napped he dreamed of a great battle. In this dream battle a great and powerful king, Stefin, fought another powerful king, Lobrock, for the lands within the kingdom to which they both claimed ownership. Stefin and his soldiers fought bravely, but they were soon overpowered by the wit and skill of Lobrock and his followers. As Stefin and his followers were forced to remove themselves from the castle fortress, Lobrock announced that only Stefin and his wife, Sofrina, may leave the castle. All others would remain, to become loyal followers of Lobrock. This was to include all of Stefin’s family members, as well. Sofrina was horrified, for she had just recently produced an egg which would soon hatch. Under no circumstances did she and Stefin wish to have their first and true heir grow up under the rule and subject to Lobrock. There was only one thing she could do. Now, as dreams will do, it ended. Right there! Frederick awoke with a dull pain in his side and as he slid aside, what do you suppose he found? “Mama, look what I found!”
“Oh my,” said Mama, “It’s an egg! Where did you get it?”
“If I tell you a secret,” said Frederick, "will you promise never to tell anyone?” “I promise.” “This is a very special egg and I have been chosen to protect it.”
***************************************************
As you begin your writing, some of the first questions you might ask: What kind of egg is it? Is Sofrina also a dinosaur? Or maybe she’s a bird queen? Or something else entirely? Which animals lay eggs? Obviously, Frederick is going to need to know, so let’s give him something to work with. Or maybe, we could just wait and find out when it hatches? Will Mama believe Frederick or will she insist he put the egg back where it came from? Can he? Did it really come from Sofrina? I can’t wait to see what you create!
