Nursery Rhymes
So many books. So little time. With the abundant selection of nursery rhymes books on the market, it can be daunting to choose the good ones for your child's library. I've highlighted a few of my favorites here and hope you agree.
Mary Engelbreit's Mother Goose: One Hundred Best-Loved Verses
100 nursery rhymes illustrated in Mary Englebreits distinctive style, reminiscent of the work of Kate Greenaway and Tasha Tudor. Well known rhymes, as well as some not so well known are included. This selection is sure to become one of your child's favorites.

Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young
What a wonderful book to introduce your little ones to the world around them through poetry. Jack Prelutsky, one of today's most respected children's poets, has selected more than 200 short poems. You'll find old favorites, traditional nursery rhymes, and humorous verses that will delight young listeners. The poems cover a wide range of experiences in a young child's life, from everyday events to special days and to the world of their imagination.

My Very First Mother Goose
Do you remember sitting on Papa’s knee as he chanted "Trot, trot, to Boston; trot, trot, to Lynn" or "Little Jack Horner." Little children are allowed to let their imaginations soar as they sing "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight." They're the ones who will be handing down these same nursery rhymes to their own children, preserving an age old tradition. Quirky and sly, sweet, gentle, rollicking, silly. This book is a must have. You will love it.

The Real Mother Goose
Seven beloved verses from Old Mother Goose are imbued with a little more "feeling" with this interactive version of the classic. Young children can stroke the white horse's silky mane in "Banbury Cross," feel the dog's smooth red satin suit in "The Cat and the Fiddle," and dig their tiny fingers into the soft wool of the sheep in "Mary Had a Little Lamb." There's even a scratch-and-sniff spice cake in "Pat-a-Cake"! Tots will love this book. Old-fashioned, Edwardian-style illustrations will please readers of all ages, and the simple two-page-spread format, with poems on the left and pictures on the right, is clean and attractive. The miniature board book is just the right size and sturdiness for small hands and new teeth. (Baby to preschool)

Truckery Rhymes
Only one word really to describe this book. FUN! Lively truck-themed Mother Goose rhymes filled with humor. Replacing the familiar lines for "Little Miss Muffet" are the words: "Little Dan Dumper sat on his bumper,/Taking his break for the day./Along came Pete Loader,/who revved his loud motor,/And frightened Dan Dumper away." The words for "Three Blind Mice" change to: "Three LOUD trucks./Three LOUD trucks./See how they ZOOM./See how they ZOOM./They all jumped over/the muck and goo./They skidded and screeched/and their mufflers blew./Did you ever see/such a crazy crew?/As three LOUD trucks./Three LOUD trucks." Fresh and fun lyrics for "The Wheels on the Bus" are perfect for singing aloud during your storytime, "The siren on the truck goes whoop, whoop, whoop…." FUN!

The Complete Book and CD Set of Rhymes, Songs, Poems, Fingerplays, and Chants
More than 700 selections children's rhymes, songs, poems, fingerplays and chants in this selection. "Hickory, Dickory, Dock" lists mice and time of day as its theme connections. "Looby Loo" suggests days of the week, movement, and parts of the body.

A Children's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes
Whimsical illustrations make this collection of over 100 rhymes, riddles, lullabies, and songs stand out from the many other choices available. Jack and Jill are two mischievous kittens who, after knocking over a vase of flowers in the living room, lap up the water they've spilled on the floor. "She'll be coming round the mountain" is a rollicking two pages of words and pictures that jump off the page. They include verses to entertain babies, to toddlers' play-and-action rhymes, to the playground chants and nonsense verses of school-age children, to sing-alongs, tongue twisters, and limericks. A great addition to your child's collection.
